FedEx Surcharges Increase for Express, Ground & Freight

Effective January 18, 2021, FedEx surcharges increase for Express and Ground and services:

Additional Handling – Express & Ground

Effective January 18th, 2021, a new segment of packages will be subject to Additional Handling(AH) charges. See the chart below for an overview:

All packages highlighted in yellow will now be subject to the 2021 Additional Handling fee of $16.00.

Package sizes greater than those shown with the blue arrow will be subject to existing Oversize package rules. This means any package measuring Length +Girth over 130”

Because there are so many package sizes, it’s impossible to give an overview of each package that will now be assessed the Additional Handling fee. The key takeaway is that all shippers need to carefully check their specific carton sizes. This is because of the high overall increase that certain shippers will experience going from $0 in Additional Handling to $16 for certain box sizes.

Additionally, in many cases will  equate to a 30% rate increase or more on certain package sizes.

Freight – Surcharges

High Cost Service Area – Freight – Current FXF PZONE, FXF EZONE, FXF 1000, FXF 501 base rates in effect at the time of shipping

FedEx surcharges increase on Freight services also effective January 18th.  The High Cost Service Area surcharge is new, though shippers may be familiar with this type of surcharge. This new surcharge is similar to the Delivery Area Surcharges applied to certain Express and Ground services. A list of zip codes that will receive the High Cost Service area surcharges can be found here.

Out-of-Delivery Area Surcharge & Pick Up Area Surcharge –  Also, these two location-specific surcharges will impact certain International Express Freight Services. These surcharges will see changes to their zip code coverage areas.  A list of the new zip codes can be found here .
